Durga Rani: A Real Enterprising Lady

Hyma Plates and Vessels is one of the leading enterprises in designing the fabricators for the industrial equipments for various industries such as pharma, bulk drgs, biotech, breweries, paper, cement, fertilizers, sugar plants etc.This company is the brain child of G Durga Rani, who is a diploma holder in Electronics and took voluntary retirement service from ICRISAT and launched this new venture under the name Hyma Plates and Vessles (P) Ltd. in 2001. Presently, she is the Managing Director of Hyma plates & vessels (p) Ltd. This enterprising lady is the winner of Rastriya Prathiba and Rastriya Ratan Awards in 2003.

Durga Rani is from an agricultural family. But that did not stop her from pursuing her goals. She completed her Diploma studies in Electronics stream and graduated in the year 1976 from the Women’s Polytechnic College in Guntur. She started her career as an electronic technician in the year 1980 with ICRISAT. She was then promoted as Senior Electronic Associate and she obtained her voluntary retirement in the year 1997.

Hyma Plates and Vessels (p) Ltd is specialised in welding technology. Started as a small firm, the company has started providing the much required equipments to the Department of Atomic Energy, Manuguru & Kota ,  Nuclear Fuel Complex in Hyderabad, The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, and  Rashtriya Chemical Fertilizers Ltd, Mumbai , CCI , Thandur . The company is expecting a turnover of 4 crores for the year 2009-10 and around 30 people are engaged in this work.

“We will work according to the specific requirements of the clients and fulfill all their needs. We started the services as a smaller unit under the self employment scheme in the year 1989, incorporated in the year 2001 and we obtained ISO 9001: 2000 certification in 2004” says Durga Rani

She says that their jobs are processed under the Control of T. P. I:  BVQI,  DNV and Lloyds.The company had developed various equipments like reactors, reactin vessels, fermentors, limped coil vessels etc to name a few..

“We are having expertise in welding technology in materials like, stainless steel, duplex stainless steel, inconnel etc. We have one of the most equipped workshop with Lifting facilities of EOT Crane of 30 Tons capacity and highly experienced sales, service,& technical team. The entire team is highly professional and has got a vast experience in welding. We consider it to be our privilege to serve for your esteemed organization. They have esteemed clients in their client list such as Department of Atomic Energy, Naval Dockyard, Vizag, Defence Metallurgical Research Limited, Kanchanabag, Hyderabad, Orchid Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Limited, Chennai etc t name a few.  

She says that her path for success was laden with challenges in the initial days. that “Without knowing the nitty gritties involved, the company quoted the least of prices and suffered huge amount of losses in the production” recollects Durga Rani.
“Initially, the funding was from our own pocket. Later, we approached Canara Bank’s SME branch who sanctioned 80 Lakhs as loan. Presently we have requested a loan of 1 Crore of amount to enhance the working capital and improve the technology and efficiency in working” adds Durga Rani.

Durga Rani is the true example of lady with strong determination, and ‘never say die’ attitude. From a humble agrarian family, she is now at the helm of a firm that closely associates with high profile organisations such as Department of Atomic Energy, Defence Metallurgical Research Limited etc. She is a role model for all those who have entrepreneurial passion in their bellies…!
