Those days are gone, when document printing requirements in an SME set up were considered as a ‘not-so-important’ component of business activity. Now, a considerable shift can be witnessed among the SMEs in the behaviour of their day to day office activity. They look at getting world class printing solutions for their official documents.

The SME market is moving from print-based MFDs to copier-based ones. Canon India is all set to woo the Indian SME segment for its intelligent document solutions portfolio. Canon India has earned revenues of more than Rs. 1250 crore during 2010.

Despite the fact that colour adoption is lower in India market compared to other Asian countries, the company expects SMEs and government sectors will drive their growth in the country. However, the company said, DGS&D continues to be the largest buyer of its colour products.

Canon India, however, believes that there is a huge demand for copier-based MFDs, as colour adoption has grown by 45 per cent during the Q2 in 2011.

Bhaskar Joshi, manager marketing, Office Imaging Solutions division at Canon India, said “We are aiming to be a market leader in colour segment within next one year as we now have a strong and complete portfolio.”

Joshi also said that the company is offering technical and awareness trainings on colour printing to partners in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. “As part of the educational program, we’ll cover 70 cities with 2,000 potential customers,” he added.

With a focus on 'E-copy PDF Pro' and 'Therefore' solutions, the company believes that it will help streamline print architecture and offer higher ROI for managed services.

Redaction is a unique feature that can remove unwanted text, if desired. It can automate PDF conversion and manage graphics smartly.

Therefore is a scalable document management solution that offers retrieval and archival as well as improves processes. Cost reduction and enhanced productivity are some of its benefits, the company said.
