Internet has completely changed our style of doing business. But this trend has further taken a great shape with the adoption level of Mobile devices like Notebooks, smart phones, netbooks in a typical Small business environment.

We live in a free world, with freedom of speech. But some might argue on this as they could be the ones who have to be in office on time, and can only come out of their offices on a set time.

This is called office decorum. One has to come to office at 9:00 Am sharp and suppose to leave office at 6:00 PM in the evening.

Small businesses who are actually run on tight situations find it even tougher to attract best available talent while offering them a not so great salary and a tight working environment.

A leading private bank’s DSA located in Lucknow was suffering from the same kind of problem. Ranjeet Kumar explained his problem by highlighting the issue of controlling employees and trying to retain them at the same time. “As a DSA of a leading bank, it becomes very important for us to deliver best possible results and retain people.. Like any other business my business was suffering from high attrition rate. I found one reason for why my employees were not sticking to their job.  One of my friends from the industry suggested me to opt the other way around. I gave full freedom to my employees as to manage their own time schedule.

Instead of looking and tracking their attendance register, I gave full freedom to manage the day’s schedule as per the market requirements.” Further elaborating, Kumar also said, “Along with the freedom, I have changed my company’s computing style. I have dumped all the desktops which were given to my sales and marketing team and equipped them with complete mobility experience by giving them laptops, notebooks and netbooks.”

”The output level of my employees has increased manifolds, in fact we have seen 35 % of our turnover jump within six months. After some time, we have also witnessed a trend that my employee found our style of working much more attractive than anywhere else.” Kumar concluded.

But what exactly mobility stands for, is it about taking office work to wherever you go? Or is it about sharing the load of work from just one office space to where ever you want. Yes, it’s the second way that people understood as the driver for mobility.

Now, smartphones are showing great amount of acceptance in the market. Mobility is about working as per your own schedule, mobility is more about delivering results rather than adhering working atmosphere.

For some departments, mobility plays a huge positive role whereas for some jobs this may be not a right option.  “Absolutely, it is more of a sales and marketing department where mobility can really do wonders.  It is because sales employees can do better when they are not sitting in the office.” Suggested Ravinder Jha a sales and marketing consultant.

There are various forms of mobility, one is through laptop and other is through smart phones. But ultimately it is about the use of internet. Using Internet through the mobile device which could be a laptop, netbook or smart phone things can be very eased out.

Mobile Internet devices (MID) is a market segment between smartphone and premium smartphone, priced in the range between Rupees 12,000 to 22,000. Basic function on a MID is Internet access, data management and AV file playback, as well as killing dead time via easy access to any kind of social network society.

Having said this, in many terms mobility is much more acceptable as compared to any other form of computing. However, one more critical factor for an employer’s perspective is the fact that with notebooks in hand, employees usually stay out of office and spends less or no time in the office premise, this brings an opportunity to save the real estate cost of the employer as this expense eats a lot of money every month.

Besides these functions, MID designers have also created a platform for different kinds of information, in this sense, MID also serves as an information exchange media for users to exchange information in a more effective and cost-friendly way.

While using internet at wherever-you-go type of situation, the main attraction is this model save a lot of time and resources which goes in travelling from one place to office just for entering the generated data into the office system.

Another key fact that have driven the mobility adoption among small and mid sized businesses is the fact that over a period of time, the cost of notebook, netbooks have came down and it is now fitting very well in the pockets of small businesses as well. By taking a real life example, from the employees who are using notebooks are considered to be more efficient and some experts even say that they are even more loyal to the company.

“I found my notebook one of the closest friend I ever had. This is about my work life as well as some bit of personal life as well. I am happy that my boss has issued me this tool as with this tool I delivering great work as well as my working capabilities are not only limited to the office workspace,” says  Amit Chouhan a working marketing and sales professional in New Delhi.
