There are over 7.6 million Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) businesses existing in India, and they are contributing aggressively towards the overall growth of Indian economy.  This is more than any other reason for any MNC to target this potential segment, specially if it is into the IT and related industry. World’s One of the leading computer manufacturers in the world, Dell Computers has realigned its focus for the Indian SMBs.

Though the SMB segment saw its growth declining in 2008, it is showing positive signs of recovery, and this provokes Dell to target this segment in a more aggressive and focussed manner.

Dell’s global survey finds 4 of 5 small business owners see technology as a means to help clean up employees’ desktops & improve productivity. However, space-saving Vostro All-In-One saves up to 79 percent of desk space, transforms desktop computing with sleek, clutter-free design.

Shrinking office spaces by means of high cost of real estate and overcrowded desks are some of the biggest adversaries, small business owners face. This conclusion came out from a Dell online poll among small businesses in China, India, France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom and United States about their desk space challenges.  In order to address this issue, Dell introduced the Vostro All-In-One, Dell’s first all-in-one desktop designed exclusively for small businesses.

“Small businesses around the world are constantly looking to do more with less, and IDC predicts that by 2013 small form factor, all-in-one and ultra-small form factor desktops will make up nearly 38 percent of the overall desktop market,” says Richard Shim, Research manager for IDC's Personal Computing program. “Solutions that help organisations migrate to space-saving desktops are well positioned to benefit from this trend,” he opines.

The Vostro all in one’s clutter-free design minimises the amount of space the computer takes up on the desk to provide buyers with a powerful, stylish and affordable desktop computer. What’s more, the computer’s full desktop processing power is backed with Dell’s ‘all smiles’ small business support.

The system is easy to set up. All it takes to go from the box to business is less than four minutes, and, when using the optional VESA mount, saves customers as much as 79 percent of their desk space versus a traditional desktop and monitor set-up. When combined with optional integrated Wi-Fi and a wireless mouse and keyboard, the result is a wire-free desk.  The new Vostro also offers Intel Core 2 Duo processors and an integrated webcam that enables businesses to enjoy remote collaboration.

“Small businesses are waking up to the fact that, saving space is a critical requirement for their desktops and the Vostro All In One is the first-of-its-kind solution for small businesses wanting a cleaner, more productive workspace at an amazing value,” said Sam Burd, global vice president, Dell Small and Medium Business. “This is a perfect example of how Dell is expanding the Vostro line to bring customers innovative design and productivity based on their unique needs and business environments.”

With the new refined focus towards SMBs, Dell has refreshed it’s Vostro range of laptops which is targeted at the SMB segment with new features.

Off late, Dell has also restructured it’s approach to Indian SMBs. “The Indian SMB hardware spend is pegged at $3.25 billion. We are looking at this huge potential of this segment. We are trying to address core issues of this segment through our products as an attractive computing component for a typical Indian SMB,” says Ravi Bharadwaj, Dell India's general manager of the SMB vertical.

Moreover, Bharadwaj also informed that the custom built laptops come with free, pre-installed video conferencing and webcam software with the purchase of integrated webcam and microphone.

Citing IT market tracker IDC's data, he said by the end of this year, nearly 35 percent of SMBs will be using some form of video conferencing.

Any company with employee strength of up to 100 is termed small and up to 700 as medium.

Claiming a 5.5 percent market share in the SMB segment, Bharadwaj said the company sells through 180 channel partners in India apart from selling directly.

Dell India makes the Vostro Classic series at its Sriperumbudur plant , while importing the Vostro Basic series from Malaysia.

Vostro is, equipped with optional Dell Backup and Recovery Manager for simplified data protection. It supports use of older peripherals that require serial or parallel ports. Besides, optional video conferencing solution with integrated camera is also available.

Backed by dedicated and trained small-business sales and support experts, Dell Vostro products come with a 30-day worry-free return policy, are available with Dell Complete Care Accidental Damage Service and Dell Pro Support services.
