Vinay AgarwalA humble beginning in 2003 in a rented flat in Chennai, today, company has offices in all Indian metros, and boasts about 400+ enterprise customers all over India (100+ Fortune 500) and over 50 employees. That Chennai flat served as company’s development center, office as well as founder’s residence at one point of time. We are talking about the success story of Unicel Technologies.

Vinay Agrawal is the founder of Unicel Technologies Pvt. Limited – a wireless solution provider company that is looking to bring the power of text based services to all enterprises, big or small.

“At Unicel Technologies, we focus on the main issues faced by the enterprise customers. As a company, we are poised to grow by delivering value to the customers,” said Vinay Agarwal.

Fresh out of an MBA from SITM in 2000, Vinay started his career in another promising startup – Aircel, a telecom operator with license in TN circle - till 2002.  During these two years he learnt everything in wireless space, be it technology, billing, VAS or consumer experience – as company experienced exponential growth during those years and being a start up it was easy to move around and contribute in many areas as opposed to any other large and established player . While in Aircel, Vinay realized that there were lots of inefficiencies when it came to provide a tailored SMS based solution to an Enterprise. He recognized that mobile operators are quite efficient in putting together a fixed offering around a consumer taste – but equally inefficient there when it comes to understanding the need of a company that is looking to leverage SMS infrastructure. Also, no two enterprise's needs are same – and there was a big gap in terms of a services based technology platform.

While in Aircel, he got the big idea, and formed a company that sought to solve the Enterprise problem by developing a plug and play platform that can wrap services around it with little programming effort, hence creating a truly customizable SMS offering at lowest cost points. For next one year, he developed from scratch GlobalOne Messaging platform, extensively testing and perfecting it with Beta customers.

A technologist at heart, he serves as the Director and CTO of the Company where he continues to drive the team of technologist as well the future direction of the company.

Another solution which Vinay and his team came up with is Travel re-imbursement solution which caters to the needs of corporate travelers by providing them with the convenience of recording their day to day company travel expenses. The variable components in allowances given to employees include travel, food, lodging and other related expenses.

Unicel Technologies is in the business of providing cutting-edge solutions to Enterprises, using the mobile telephony platform.

The company currently works in 4 verticals namely SMS and VOICE where SMS has products/services like Global one, MailOne, NotifyOne & ConnectOne, VOICE has products/services like Predictive Outbound Dialer with SMS support and a Virtual IVR Call Centre solution. All these services can be enabled on the UNICEL pioneered Virtual Number platform and even on the short code.

While commenting on the mushrooming on mobile applications companies in India, Vinay added, “We are certainly not worried about the mushrooming growth of the mobile applications companies. Through our work, customers have now understood our value and they have recognized us as a value player in the mobile applications ecosystem.”

The company has plans of going global and replicating its success story of India. Efforts are on anvil to mark their presence in Asia Pacific including Australia, EMEA and the US in the next 2 years. Unicel is also exploring business opportunities in Inter Carrier Messaging.

In a short span of 5 years, the company expects to achieve a turnover of 24 crores in the next financial year and a turnover of 150 crores by 2013.

The company is headquartered at Bangalore with regional offices in Delhi,   Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Chennai. They plan to expand its operations to 7 other cities in the coming months.
