It’s hard to believe that Vikram Bohra, the enterprising young man, is the brain behind setting up a one- stop art shop in the city of Chennai. Vikram Bohra shares his success story with Small Enterprise India.

After graduating in Corporate Secretary ship from Vivekananda College in Chennai, Vikram wanted to hone his entrepreneurial skills. He was well aware that his residence is strategically situated among several colleges and schools in the city. Initially, his father Mr. Prakash Bohra helped finance his project and they started out with a printing press and side by side, they used to get orders in bulk for stationary goods. It was then that this unique idea occurred to Vikram to set up a one stop art shop in the city.

He approached leading colleges in Chennai like Stella Maries, Loyola, MOP Vaishnav, which were offering courses in visual communication and fine arts. There is a lot of demand for art materials which are not easily available in an ordinary stationary shop. Hence Vikram knew that he would be able to use his new art shop as a main platform to serve college students in and around the city.

Apart from the usual brands like Camlin, Vikram has orders for Canson paper from France, Pebeo (paints), and Daler-Rowney (paints from England) and Fabriano from Italy. “Every academic year, students pursuing visual communication and visual arts in leading colleges in the city require around forty items for their course. I have all these forty items easily stocked and available at any time. “.With his roots in Rajasthan, it is easy for him to procure handmade paper in bulk from his home state. Handmade paper, printed hand made paper, metallic boards for wedding cards- these are unique to his shop.

This cute art shop is truly an artist’s paradise with all the materials stocked under one roof. “I can vouch for the quality of my hand made paper’- claims Vikram. Students of visual art, viscom, and fine arts have a lot of projects and assignments to complete. Vikram assists them with their project work too by way of cutting, spiral binding and offering creative ideas for project work.

Now, due to Vikram’s unstinting enthusiasm and hard work, Bohraa’s have four branches in the city, situated at Pearl Academy of Fashion- Nungambakkam, AMC Jain College- Meenambakkam,SNDBV College Chrompet, and SS Jain College, T Nagar. This art shop chain offers Xerox facilities at all their branches.

Any student requiring any material need just give him a ring. The materials are even delivered at the college premises. His undying enthusiasm and promptness has brought him a long way and he still aspires to reach out to even more of the student and artist community.

His clientele is not restricted to just art and visual communication students. Artists of every genre, and art directors make a beeline for his art shop , with utmost confidence that Vikram would have all that they need readily available. Most of the art directors of the Tamil film industry vouch for the good quality and goodwill of this smart young entrepreneur.

Vikram opens shop early- he is busy from 7.30 AM to 9PM and he is even available on Sundays, till noon. He has five assistants to help him out with the management of the other branches.

A keen sense of observation and awareness has helped Vikram in multiple ways. He now senses the need to come out with text books since he sees parents and students frisking around the city to buy them.

‘Catering to the need of the hour” is his motto, and shortly, Vikram hopes to tie up with McMillan and S.Chand to provide text books to all genres of students.

‘I want to open up more branches and widen the reach of my products- smiles Vikram confidently.
