Revathi Krishna: The Enterprising Biz Woman

E-mail Print PDF

Coffee, Books and  More..Its  a place  where  one can  relax, unwind  and let go,  a book lover’s  paradise  with hundreds  of books  lining the shelves. An exclusive  coffee  shop with abundance of books to choose from,  and a place to listen to soft music which is calming and  soothening to the ears.

Revathi  Krishna,  the proprietress  of  Coffee , books and more… at the Info Park,  Kakkanad, Kochi shares her success story with Small Enterprise India.

Revathi   is a Tamilian born and brought up in Kerala. After  graduating in English from  St Theresas college,  she went on to do her  Masters in Business Administration  from Cochin University. Soon after, she got married and left for the States. It was here that  the seeds  were sown  for  opening a book shop  back in India , modeled on the lines  of several  bookshops spanning the  length  and breadth of America.

“ I had come  across  exclusive  bookstores , there, where  one  could  read,  relax, eat , drink  and  there would be a  puppet show organizsed  simultaneously to  entertain kids’- spoke Revathi animatedly.  Both  Revathi and  her husband Mukund   love food and books ,  and hence, on their return to  India, they  jointly decided to  open  an exclusive bookshop- a combo  of their  passions- books and food”.

“Since it is located  inside  the Info Park  at Kakkanad , Kochi,  Coffee, Books and More… remains a favorite haunt of  the  IT professionals, offering them a haven  to unwind and relax.’ We have tied up with Shankar’s and Penguin books.  They supply the books  and whatever is sold, we  receive a commission  on it. W e have tied up with a local seller,  who deals in second hand  books. It is much cheaper and more  affordable  for our clients too. Apart from this, we sell music CD’s too”- smiles Revathi.

When recession struck, the US based company for  which Mukund  Krishna was working, decided to  close down operations  in Kochi. Mukund put forth a proposal and  asked them  whether he could  sign an agreement  with them to  take over operations in India . They were only too willing to hand over exclusive rights to Mukund  and thus, Suyati technologies  was formed.  Their first customer was the same US  based company from whom they had  bought out rights- Sigma  Micro.

Suyati technologies was approached by another client who needed help in  writing blogs and they offered  to  provide the requisite software. Revathi decided to man those operations and thus, she started the portal www.contentcrossroads.com.

This portal is all about   creating content. From brochures to blogs, proposal to presentations, they provide  business content that ultimately translates to bringing in business. In brief, content cross roads is a business content outsourcing initiative of Suyati technologies. “We write content  for blogs, news feeds,  and articles for our American and European clients. We blog for the government of Kerala  We have  over 11 writers freelancing for us”.

Revathi aspires to promote women entrepreneurs and women writers  who are inclined to  make a career  out of  freelancing .

“We take our leave of the young and vibrant couple,  feeling relaxed,  and inspired after browsing through their  vast  collection of  books and music”.  We wish Revathi  and Mukund   continued success. …..
