Entrepreneurship is all About Being Crazy

E-mail Print PDF

As wise men say, “You can achieve a lot if you are crazy about something, but nothing if you are lazy about something.” Entrepreneurship is all about being crazy. Imagine Steve Jobs of Apple, who some believe is one of the most eccentric entrepreneurs of all time. Who would imagine there is a need of a 30000 Rs + iPhone when the world was trying to cut costs and bring cheaper mobiles? Or our very own Dhirubhai Ambani of Reliance, who went from one crazy decision to another till every business he put his hands on became a case study for others to follow.

Let us look at few aspects of this craziness:

Having a big vision
Entrepreneurs think about changing the world, not just introducing a new product or service. They think big, really big! When Phanindra Sama of Redbus could not get a bus ticket for going home on holidays, he decided to start an online bus ticketing venture and change the whole bus industry. Today, Redbus has sold more than a crore bus tickets, and over 1.8 lakhs routes are listed for booking on this website!

Act Fast
Entrepreneurs are not only thinkers, but also doers. If you keep making excel sheets and business plan ppts all your life, then when will you get up to hire teams, develop products and meet customers? Hitendra Chaturvedi of Greendust, which is one of the largest recycling, refurbishing and retailing venture in India today, has risen to 100 crores revenues in the fastest time. It was started in 2008, when the world was going through a recession, but Hitendra stuck to it and even after tough investment scenarios raised multiple angels round and multiple series of venture capital funding.

Take Responsibility
Flipkart was born at a time when the so-called experts were saying there is no way ecommerce can succeed in India, and the big – shots like Reliance Big, Times and Rediff had failed to deliver up to expectations. Sachin and Binny, the young IIT Delhi graduates decided it was time to build the Amazon of India, and today we see Flipkart as the ‘Online Megastore’ and ‘Shopping ka naya address’! With limited capital at the beginning, Sachin and Binny used to deliver books to customers on their own bikes when could not afford a reliable courier service. The CEOs themselves were the courier boys!

Only a crazy person can undertake such things, but it is only to the world that these things sound crazy. The entrepreneur sees all of this as normal. So go do something crazy today, tomorrow and every day - and you will surely achieve the best in your life.
