E-mail Print PDF

If you are a small business owner running on a shoestring budget, here is a hot and effective way to market your business-forum marketing! It is effective and great because it is free and delivers solid result. No matter what kind of business you own, there is a forum on the internet to discuss it. There are literally hundreds of online forums these days and they can be really useful for anybody who runs a small business, providing with the opportunity to make your name in your business field and to attract visitors to your website and products.

To kick start your forum marketing, the first thing you will need to do is to go to google.com and enter your keyword + forum. For example if you are to market a weight loss product, try a key word like "weight loss product+ forum", scan through the list and spot the forums that matches your interests.

Now that you found a good forum, you should develop a bond between you and the forum users. Present yourself and write some useful information that will help people. The right way to promote with a forum is to genuinely engage in the conversations. It may be tempting to disguise an advertisement in your posts as being a part of the conversation, but most people can see through that. It may offend people more than blatantly advertising because it makes you look dishonest and makes them feel like you are trying to trick them.  So do not try to sell in these forums directly. When you launch your forum marketing provide valuable information to others and people will start to trust you and they will start buying from you only after this trust is built. After some good posts you put a very nice and compelling post talking about the benefits of your product or service. Then you write some 4-10 posts helping people, then promote again and so one. This way you are creating a bond and promoting at the same time.

Forums can be an effective way to create business but only if you do it right. When used properly they can be a powerful tool for your business. Through forums, you can connect with other like minded people and build relationships that can last a lifetime. You can share ideas and learn things from people from all over the world with very different perspectives. Forums can also be a good source of traffic for your website and a way to promote your business. The problem is many people go about promoting on forums the wrong way. There are a few things you should take care of while posting in forums if you are to succeed.

According to me the following are some of the forum etiquettes you should follow:

Do not spam. If you are going to participate in a forum then your objective should be to earn recognition and establish yourself as an expert in your field by bringing real value to the forum. Provide information packed posts and make sure that you don’t post too much of them either. And never try to advertise your product, just write just posts that offer useful and answers to the queries.

Do not post anything off the topic: Forums are designed as a meeting ground for like minded people and will normally cover a single topic or perhaps a small group of related topics. There is nothing which will upset members faster than posting content which is off topic. So avoid it.

Write posts with clarity: Whether you are asking or answering a question make things easy for forum members but include all of the necessary information in your posts. Remember there is nothing worse than those incomplete posts which lack clarity.

Avoid quoting previous messages: Most forums use software which allows you to quote previous messages when adding a post to a thread. But you should not quote unless it is absolutely necessary to make your post for adding in quotes simply makes the thread unnecessarily long and cluttered.

Register yourself in a forum, build a catchy profile, project yourself as someone who is honest, respectable and who delivers value to people and naturally participants want to know more about you and click on your links. This way if they like what they see on your site/blog, they will be more likely to do business with you. Not only is this an effective way to get traffic directly from the forums, it also helps build backlines to your website/blog. Having links to your site on the internet is important for ranking well with the search engines.

So what are you waiting for! Kick start your own forum marketing today and make a genuine contribution to the discussion and get good return on your investment as a forum participant.
